How do I get started?
Sign up, pick the Actor role at the welcome screen, and follow the onboarding checklist on your dashboard: complete your profile, upload a script, record your first take, get AI feedback, and browse the casting board. Each step takes 2-5 minutes.
What happens during a recording session?
Upload sides, assign a character to yourself and let the AI play the others. Quality checks run for audio, lighting, framing, and background. Your AI scene partner reads opposite lines using realistic voices. You record video and audio of yourself. After the recording finishes, get optional AI feedback with scores across diction, believability, pacing, and energy.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free includes unlimited practice, AI feedback, take comparison, the full voice library, and the casting board. Pro ($19/month with a 7-day free trial) adds the ability to submit your recordings to casting directors directly through the platform. Everything else is the same.
How does submitting work?
Find a casting on the board that fits you. Practice the sides — they auto-load from the casting post. Record your takes. When you click Submit, we automatically pick your highest-scored take and package it with your profile and AI scores for the casting director. They'll see your work and your prep at the same time.
Will my recordings be used to train AI?
No. We use third-party AI services (ElevenLabs, OpenAI Whisper, Anthropic Claude) only to process your content for the features you're using — voice synthesis, transcription, and feedback. We don't license your audio to anyone for model training, and to our knowledge none of our AI providers retain content from paid API calls for that purpose.
Why didn't I get a notification email?
Check your spam folder first. Then check your notification preferences in /profile — you can toggle which events trigger emails. If you're still not getting expected emails, your email might be on Resend's bounce list (rare). Email us and we'll sort it.
How do I cancel Pro?
Go to /profile, scroll to the Subscription section, click Manage. You'll be redirected to the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel, change payment method, or view past invoices. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period.
What if I'm in a trial and don't want to be charged?
Cancel anytime during the 7-day trial through the same /profile → Manage flow. You won't be charged. You'll keep Pro access through the trial period.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Within 14 days of your first charge, we'll refund the full amount, no questions. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion. Email support@livenframe.com.
For Casting Directors
How much does it cost for casting directors?
Free in v1. Unlimited castings, unlimited submissions, full inbox tooling. We monetize the actor side; CDs use the platform at no cost. We may introduce CD tiers in the future, but with at least 30 days notice and grandfathering for existing accounts.
How do I post my first casting?
Sign up and pick Casting Director at the welcome screen. The dashboard shows an onboarding checklist. Step 1 is setting up your office profile. Step 2 is creating your first post. The casting form lets you upload sides, set framing/slate directions, attach reference videos, and pick public or private visibility.
What's the difference between public and private castings?
Public castings appear on the actor casting board and trigger alert emails to actors whose preferences match. Private castings have an invite-only link you can share with specific actors. Both work the same way in your inbox once submissions arrive.
Can I attach a reference video?
Yes. On the casting form, scroll to Direction Videos. You can record up to 5 reference clips directly in the browser or upload existing video files. Use these to show framing examples, demonstrate tone, or read the scene yourself to set energy. Actors see them on the casting detail page before they tape.
How do I review submissions efficiently?
Open your casting from the dashboard, click View Submissions. Sort by overall score, individual dimensions (diction, believability, pacing, energy), or date. Use the score threshold filter to hide submissions below a minimum. Shortlist with one click; the actor gets a notification.
What does it mean when I 'pass' on a submission?
It marks the submission as not selected in your inbox. By default, the actor doesn't get notified — most casting offices don't send decline emails. If you want to provide closure to actors, enable 'Send a polite decline email when I pass on a submission' in your casting profile. The system sends a gracious decline email on your behalf when you press Pass.
Can other people on my team see submissions?
Currently the inbox is per-account. You can set a 'forwarding email' in your casting profile so a copy of every notification email goes to a colleague or assistant. A full team-account feature is on the roadmap.
Troubleshooting
Camera or microphone won't turn on
Click the lock icon next to the URL in your browser and ensure both Camera and Microphone permissions are set to Allow. Then refresh the page. If you're on a mobile device, check your OS-level browser permissions in Settings. Brave and some other browsers also have separate fingerprinting protections that can block media access — toggle 'Shields' off for the live n frame domain.
My recording uploaded but the AI feedback never arrived
AI feedback usually completes within 60-120 seconds. If it's been longer, refresh the page — sometimes the connection drops mid-analysis but the work has actually finished. Still nothing? Email us with the recording URL and we'll investigate.
Submission button shows 'Pro is required' even though I just upgraded
Stripe webhooks usually sync within a few seconds, but rarely they take up to a minute. Refresh the page after a brief pause. If the issue persists for more than 5 minutes, email us — we can manually verify the subscription state.
I'm getting a 'Missing or insufficient permissions' error
This usually means your authentication session expired or there's a sync hiccup with Firebase. Sign out, sign back in, and try again. If it persists, your account may need a manual sync — email us with a screenshot of the error.
Quality checks are stuck or failing repeatedly
Try clicking 'Re-check all' to run them again. The lighting check needs decent contrast — if your room is too dark, no algorithm can fix that. The audio check needs at least one good speech sample to calibrate. Speak a sentence at normal volume and re-check.
I dismissed the onboarding card and want to see it again
Open browser DevTools console (F12) and run: localStorage.removeItem('onboarding:actor:YOUR_USER_ID') — replace YOUR_USER_ID with the ID shown on your profile URL. Refresh the dashboard. Or just complete the remaining steps and the card will eventually go away on its own.
